Sunday, January 10, 2010: Departing Calcutta

Today was our day to depart Calcutta, enriched by our newly-found friends and our many experiences.  We flew through Mumbai on our way to Cochin in Kerala on the southwest coast of India.  Flying into Mumbai, we saw incredible expanses of slum housing, grimly confirming what we already knew - that our service work in Calcutta was a spit in the ocean of worldwide poverty.  But Mother Teresa had taught that we should do small things with great love - ordinary things with extraordinary love.  It is not how much we do but how much love we put in the doing - a lifelong sharing of love with others.  I think we understand this message now.
